Kildares Pub is located in Silverado, and after Melissa had heard good things about it from her mom, we decided we should give it a try on our way home from Spruce Meadows.
Typically I don't expect much from some of these "neighborhood pubs", although lately it seems like a few good ones have been popping up around Calgary. There's a pretty good menu, so no matter what you feel like, you are bound to find something here you'll like. Service was friendly and fast, even though we were there in between meals, which doesn't seem to happen often. The wing flavours also looked fantastic, and I look forward to going back for a wing night(Tuesdays) at some point.
We ended up getting an order of nachos to start, which are served by the foot. Served with salsa, guac, sour cream and the usual nacho fare, these were a solid start to our meal. The guac tasted fresh and the salsa had a subtle cinnamon-esque(or some other savoury spice) flavour to it that I could not nail down, but it really was great. We ended up filling up quite quickly on these, which ultimately made us struggle to finish the rest of our meal.
Melissa ordered the fish & chips(North Atlantic Cod), and I can vouch that they were pretty great as she forgot her leftovers at my house. The batter was light and crispy, with just a touch of beer, but not so strong that it's blowing out any other flavour.
I decided to go for the Fried Egg BLT, and I honestly can't say enough about it. For a sandwich that could be done in a typical, boring but safe way, Kildares has nailed a kicked up version. The richness that the fried egg adds is delicious, although can be a little messy as the yolk breaks. Sliced avocado and the subtle chipotle mayo really make this what it is though. I also had a side of the Guinness Soup, which was creamy and delicious, although I did not get to enjoy enough of it as I ended up so full from the nachos beforehand.
If you're looking for a new place to grab a beer and some really good pub food in the deep south, definitely swing by Kildares in Silverado.
