Sunshine Mountain Lodge

This weekend Bryce and I had the pleasure of staying in (or on) the mountains at Sunshine Mountain Lodge. When we arrived at Sunshine for a day of snowboarding we didn't expect to receive our room until 4 pm, as this is check-in time, but were surprised with a room already available. We received reserved parking, and after the 15 minute gondola ride up to the top of the mountain we dropped our bags in the room and then headed out to snowboard. We were situated on the fifth floor in a Deluxe Waterfall Room, and although our view wasn't directly of the mountains, we were able to watch skiers attempt a steep hill on the Waterfall run (they couldn't see us), which provided endless entertainment.

Our beautiful view from the fifth floor

When we first walked in we were pleasantly surprised by our cozy room. Although small, it was more than enough space for a couple - each room features a queen sized bed and sitting area next to it. The room included a small tv, a Keurig machine with coffee and a kettle for tea.

The bathroom contained a beautiful slate tiled shower, which I think is the nicest hotel shower I have ever used. It even had a heat lamp to turn on so you wouldn't be cold getting out of the shower!

After a 5 am wakeup and a few hours of boarding, Bryce and I decided to eat lunch and take a quick nap in our room. We've now realized when we snowboard at Sunshine and don't plan to spend the night we will miss being able to take an afternoon nap.

We returned to the hill for the remainder of the day and then settled in for the evening. The warm shower and heat lamp were the perfect way to relax after a day in the snow.

Dinner was enjoyed at the Chimney Corner Lounge and Sports Bar located on the second floor of the lodge, convenient for those who don't wish to venture outside to other buildings on the property. I had the fish and chips and Bryce had a steak sandwich with french onion soup. We were both satisfied with our choices - I don't think you can go wrong with anything you choose, and it's not overly expensive.

When it was time to call it a night we curled up in the comfortable queen sized bed. The room was quiet and cozy which created the perfect atmosphere for us sleep for 10 hours straight.

Skier or not, the Sunshine Mountain Lodge is the perfect getaway to the mountains. Sure it may be more enjoyable if you want to hit the slopes, but they also offer other activities like snowshoeing if that's more your thing.
