Troll Falls is situated near the Nakiska ski hill, making for easy access to those from Calgary or those headed out west for some mountain adventuring. As you make your way past the turnoff to the Kananaskis Village, you'll see a parking area to your right before getting to the Nakiska parking area. From here, Troll Falls are just a short jaunt, the whole trip totalling about three kilometres.

Troll Falls |
After you park, head away from the road, along the clearing that follows the power-lines until you see the trailhead map. From here, you should be able to easily figure out where you need to go in order to reach the falls. Other hikes can be combined with the visit to the falls to make for a longer hike as well. Melissa and I made the trek in February, so there was still a decent amount of snow on the ground. Snowshoes weren't necessary, but did make clambering around the ice of the falls a little easier!

The trail meanders its way up a wide trail for a while until you come to a clearing in the woods that gives you a good view of the mountains around you. Not quite sure what the clearing in the middle of the hill is for, but the view was great!

Trail to Troll Falls |
As you continue, the trail dives back into the woods without ever getting very technical. I imagine it's gravel in the summer, as it's wide and seemed fairly flat underneath. Continue through the woods until you come to an intersection, at which point you will see another trail marker. From here you can find your way up a short section to Troll Falls, which you can climb around and take your time exploring, especially when it's frozen.

After exploring the falls, make your way back out either the way you came, or through the clearing along the powerlines again, which gives you a great view of the mountains around you. This short, tame hike lets you explore some frozen falls without a major time commitment, and gives you some solid mountain views, so I'd definitely recommend making the trip if you're on your way back to Calgary from the mountains or spending the day at Nakiska or Kananaskis Village.
